St. Louis County Jail Roster

The inmate roster of the St. Louis County Jail, Minnesota, is a public resource that allows anyone to check if a specific person is in custody at the county jail. StLouisMNCourt.us provides access to public information about current and recent inmates. Additionally, data can be obtained through the official website of the St. Louis County Sheriff, by visiting the jail in person, or by calling. The roster is maintained by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office; it is published in PDF format and updated regularly. The search allows the public to learn the inmate's name, charges, and the arresting agency — it is a transparency tool provided by Minnesota state law.

Search Current Inmates in St. Louis Jail

There are several ways to find information about inmates in the St. Louis County Jail.

Online Search

  1. Visit StLouisMNCourt.us to search for publicly available court information related to inmates.
  2. Go to the Jail Roster page on the Sheriff's website. The Sheriff's Office publishes the roster as a PDF document that lists all individuals in custody at the time the report is generated.
  3. Since the roster is a PDF file, use the search function in your browser (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) to find the last name of the person you are looking for.

You will need the person's full legal name to search. The booking number or LID number, if known, will expedite identification — the LID number is listed directly in the online roster.

Juvenile offenders are not included in the public roster.

By Phone

Call the jail directly to confirm if a specific person is in custody. The operator can confirm the presence of an inmate if you provide the full name.

In Person

Visit the lobby of the St. Louis County Jail in Duluth. Staff at the information desk will assist with the search.

Find St. Louis Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created at the moment a person is officially admitted to the jail. It is the first document that records the fact of custody.

The following data is generated during the booking procedure:

  • Booking number
  • Inmate's LID number
  • Date and time of admission
  • Charges
  • Arresting agency (e.g., St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, MN State Patrol – Duluth, etc.)

The main part of this information is available through the PDF roster on the Sheriff's website. The document lists the name, charges, and the arresting agency. If you need additional details — such as a copy of the arrest report or detention protocol — submit a public data request through the Sheriff's Office Records Division. This division is responsible for processing and storing records of crimes, arrests, traffic incident reports, and related documents.

Court materials for the case can be viewed separately through Minnesota Court Records Online (MCRO) — this portal shows case information for all district courts in the state, including hearing dates and court decisions. To search, select St. Louis County from the list.

Search the St. Louis Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The St. Louis County Jail roster is organized in a tabular format. Two main ways to find the person you need:

By Last Name

  1. Open the PDF roster.
  2. Press Ctrl+F (Windows) or Cmd+F (Mac).
  3. Enter the last name in Latin letters. If the last name is common, add the first name separated by a space to narrow the results.

Check the spelling — even one letter error will result in an empty result. Try spelling variations if the last name can be transliterated differently.

By LID Number

The LID number is a unique inmate identifier in the jail system. If you know it, enter it in the browser's search field. This is the most accurate method, as the number belongs to only one person.

If the Search Yields No Results

  • The person may have already been released — the roster only shows those in custody at the time of the last update.
  • The booking may not yet be reflected in the document due to an update delay.
  • The person may be held in another facility or transferred to the Minnesota Department of Corrections. Check the MN DOC site search.
  • Call the jail for clarification.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in St. Louis

The St. Louis County Jail roster is generated as a PDF report and updated periodically — it is not a real-time system. Several hours may pass between the booking of a new inmate and their appearance in the document.

Key limitations to be aware of:

  • Delay after arrest. A recently arrested person may not appear in the roster immediately. The booking procedure and data entry take time.
  • Disappearance after release. When a person is released — on bail, by court decision, or after serving a sentence — their name is removed from the next update. The roster reflects the current inmate composition, not an archive of all previous bookings.
  • Not an archive. If you need information about a person who was previously in custody, the roster will not help. Submit a public data request to the Sheriff's Office Records Division.
  • Input errors. Sometimes a last name may be recorded with an error during booking — in such cases, a search with the exact spelling will not yield a result.

To check active arrest warrants in the county, use the active warrants list published by the Sheriff's Office based on data from the Sixth Judicial District Court. If you have information about the whereabouts of a wanted person, you can report anonymously through Warrant Tips.
